A study on survival rates in cervical cancer with primary surgical treatment

Abstract
We studied the five-year survival rates to know the prognosis and related factors in cervical cancer.
From 1, January 1980 through 31, December 1985, 268 patients of cervical cancer were treated primarily with surgery at Chonnam University Hospital.
Patients without adjuvant treatment were 42.5% in stage I b and 14.8% in stage II a (P<0.01).
Five-year survival rates for patients was 98.5% in stage I a, 88.4% in stage I b, 75.9% in stage II a respectively(P<0.05). Five-year survival rates of patients with pelvic lymphnode involvement was 63.6% in stage I b (versus 92.0%) and 60.0% in
stage
II a (versus 76.9%) (P<0.05).
The minimum thickness of univolved cervical tissues at the site of deepest tumor invasion were evaluated in 200 patients with stage I b and II a cervical carcinoma. Minimum thickness were less than 5mm in 87 patients and 5mm and above in 113
patients.
Five-year survival rates were 75.7% in the former and 92.0% in the latter respectively(P<0.01).
With these result we saw that lymphnode metastasis and uninvoved cervical thickness were a good indicator of patient' survival in cervical cancer.
